Our Summary of Learning!

What a long process but we made it!

Leigh and I were able to do a very special Summary of Learning for both EC&I 832 and 834. Leigh was in 832 when Covid shut all classes down in 2020 (therefore did not do an SoL) and she is taking 834 right now. I am currently in both 832 and 834 so we decided to team up to do a big Summary of Learning.

This was Leigh’s first time and my second time using a green screen – so I had some skills I had to brush up on and was able to teach her a few tricks to the trade. We met at her school and worked for hours upon hours and finally nailed it! There were quite a few bloopers involved and we had a blast, but we are definitely thankful it is done!

EC&I 832 and 834 were very complimentary courses to take together. Even my Major Projects had elements I could link between the two courses of study to create a more holistic experience for myself as a professional. We were able to take key pieces away from each course and link them with the larger overarching themes of both courses, such as the concept of Online Learning and LMS from 834 as well as Ribble’s 9 Elements of Digital Citizenship and understanding digital literacy from 832. Because of the complementary overlap, we felt confident in bridging the two classes for a unified Summary of Learning. PLUS, Leigh got her redemption shot and bragging rights of being the only person from 832 Winter 2020 to complete an SoL! This is her last Grad class and it was an honour to help be a part of her journey!

Take a peek at our video – we tried to work in a few pieces of humour as we have a long history of working together and going to Grade 12 grad together as well! We haven’t aged a bit… only older and wiser! #GradDatesDoGradStudies

I am looking forward to a successful spring semester of EC&I 831!

Until then…

  1. Nice work! Love the use of the green screen, and the blended approach between the two classes! They seem really complimentary of each other, and the big ideas that you used were a nice way to organize what was addressed in each class. It was nice that you came back together to end it off with a fun little finish!

  3. Love the green screen use, great detailed SoL, I took ECI 834 last winter and thought it complimented 832 well. You connected the two courses in a very informative presentation!

    1. Thanks, Dylan! Your summary of learning last night was AWESOME! I love the creativity… that is definitely something I lack when it comes to the SoL! Great working with you this semester! Looking forward to your continued posts on Insta!

  4. You and Leigh did a fantastic job on this, I totally admitted on her page that you two influenced me to try a green screen too, so I totally copied you – just the green screen part, and I will totally admit to it. It was fun learning how to do something that I have never done before, and if I hadn’t looked at your blog post I would never have done it. So thanks for posting early, and for the positive influence you had on my presentation.

    1. Yay! That is awesome to hear! Green screens on Wevideo are super easy to do … once you get into a rhythm! I am glad that we were inspirational and helped along with your project. Feels great to collaborate in that way and help people learn new things! Well done!!

    1. Thanks, Kelly! It was a great experience and feels even better being done ahead of schedule (that never happens for me) and Leigh was impressed at how we were able to keep everything concise. Usually, Leigh and I are very long-winded lol. Thanks for the comment!

  6. I am so glad you shared this video in our 834 class. This is amazing, and i’s so cool to see you two being lifelong learners together! Great throwback pictures. This is so well put together, professional, and has amazing pacing. You took a risk using the green screen and it paid off! Would you use a green screen again after the time you spent on this project?

    1. Yes! Using the Greenscreen is easier than expected. If you have the time to play around with it, or are creating a big presentation of sorts, the greenscreen is an easy way to have interactive content behind you speaking! Thanks for the feedback!

  7. Wow! I was so impressed with the summary of learning that you and Leigh created. It was thorough, amusing, and informative. I noticed that you used a LMS to organize your Big Ideas, which is a clever way to blend content with creativity. Great job!!

  8. Hi Dalton! This is awesome. You and Leigh connected to so much content from both of your courses. I really liked your use of the green screen. I will certainly keep it in mind for use in future courses or in my classroom. I agree with you that technology should welcomed into the classroom in order for students to learn the tools to be good digital citizenship. Your comment on no longer using scare tactics to teach students like previously done with drugs and alcohol was perfect. We need to teach digital citizenship. Great job!
